Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shankar, a British American artist and a sitarist is best known for her songs. She was first of her generation to receive an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka is a emerging star of Indian sitar. She is the student and daughter to Ravi Shankar. Born in London and grew up in New Delhi, she spent the early years of her life moving between London and New Delhi. The first time she performed was at New Delhi at the tender 13 years old. After moving to Encinitas, California in 1999, she was awarded an honorary high school diploma. Anouskha is still pursuing a successful performing and recording careers, even though she's only a teenager. She has been accompanying her father on stage for several years. In 1998 she released her first solo album Anourag. Her Grammy-nominated Live At Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. The stage is a very significant part of her work. She's played in many important venues across the world. Anoushka Shankar's professional life isn't limited to performing in music. Bapi the love of My Live, a picture-biography that is written in tribute to her father Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. Also, in films in 2003 she played the role in the film Dance Like a Man where she is an aspiring Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka Shankar's professional career is continuing to develop and we can expect to see a variety of things from her in years to come. Anoushka was a frequent traveler and spent lots of her time in London and Delhi throughout her childhood. Then, she relocated to California to attend high school. When she was 9 She began studying music alongside her father. The first time she performed on the Sitar was during her birthday celebrations for her 75th birthday in Delhi just four years later. Alongside her father, his world tour, Anoushka had a wealth of experiences appearing in Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival and making recordings alongside George Harrison. She was the youngest and only female recipient of the House of Commons Shield awarded by British Parliament to recognize her musicianship and talent as a preeminent musician of the Asian Arts.
