Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, popularly referred to by the name Ashanti was born October 13 1981 in Glen Cove New York United States. She is a singer songwriter and actor who hails from in the United States. Ashanti became famous as a teenager and eventually signing with Murder Inc. Records in 2002. Ashanti made an appearance as the Fat Joe's What's Luv? The track "What's the Love?" by Fat Joe and Ja Rule's "It's Always" on Time are both massive hits. The first female artist to hold the highest two positions within the Billboard Hot 100 list in the United States with Foolish at first place and What's Luv? second place. Tina Douglas' mother was teacher of dance, and Ken-Kaide Douglas, the father of Ashanti Douglas was a vocalist. She is Kenashia's youngest sister. Douglas named Ashanti Shia Douglas after her mother, who was from the Ashanti Empire of Ghana where women were influential and powerful. Douglas wanted Ashantis to adopt this model. James' grandfather was associated with Martin Luther King Jr. as a civil rights activist during the 1960s. The mother of Ashanti discovered her talent after listening to her sing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti performed as an part-time actress on Spike Lee's Malcolm X in 1992, and Ted Demme's Who's the Man? In addition, she appeared in some music videos like 8-Off Ghettogirl, and K.R.S. Act One MC's The People You've Never Even Met. Ashanti was courted and signed by various record labels, among them Bad Boy. She also appeared in a couple of music videos. She continued to perform in New York, and she was spotted in the Murder Inc. studios hoping for a big break. Ashanti was featured on the first time on the track of Big Pun, How We Roll, as a back vocalist. She was also featured on Fat Joe's track"What's Luv?" Ja Rule's "Always on Time" as well as Fat Joe's What's Luv! The debut single Foolish features a sample taken from the song by DeBarge called Stay With Me. Her self-titled album first released in 2002 through Irv Gotti's Murder Inc. record label. The Declaration, Ashanti's fourth studio album, debuted on the 3rd of June, 2008. Hey Baby was released for radio and on digital platforms on 16 October 2009. The actress also appeared in films Christmas in the City, Army Wives and Latasha Monteclair. Her track Rock wit U was sampled by British rapper Aitch for his song Baby on the 10th of March 2022.
